The Road and Bridge Research Institute is pleased to invite you to participate in the 2nd International Scientific and Technical Conference “Modern Road Pavements – Recycling and Decarbonisation” MRP'25 which will be held on 22-23 October 2025.
The conference will focus on recycling and the issue of decarbonisation in the road sector.
One of the priorities of road construction worldwide is the harmonious coexistence of road infrastructure and the environment. New and upgraded roads must be environmentally friendly during construction, use and at the end of their anticipated servicelife. This requires the use of materials and technologies which do not harm the environment or users and which ensure that the road infrastructure has a life cycle as long as possible. Measures should be taken to reduce the consumption of natural resources, to use them rationally, including reuse so as to minimise waste generation and to reduce negative environmental impacts.
Road construction is an area that is particularly predisposed to the application of recycling for many reasons. Its application provides significant advantages in new road construction, road repair and reconstruction, and enables the use of waste from other areas of the economy. Thus, research work to find new material, technological and design solutions to reuse recovered and recycled materials is extremely necessary. However, the feasibility and scale of the use of recycling in road construction depends on a number of factors, including:
- regulations which should specify the conditions for its application,
- technological recommendations and technical requirements.
Scientific entities, i.e. universities and research institutes, as well as contractor companies, should carry out the work necessary to develop new and improve existing technologies. Moreover, economic and environmental assessment of the use of recycling should be applied. It is also necessary to carry out promoting activities that demonstrate opportunities, development directions and point out economic and environmental benefits.
Decarbonisation in road construction is currently a key issue. So far, the main focus has been on the decarbonisation of transport, with talk of reducing the use of combustion cars and replacing them with electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles. An important aspect is to pay attention to the decarbonisation of road infrastructure – both during construction and maintenance. The construction materials used should be optimised to reduce energy consumption and associated costs as much as possible, both for the contractor and the infrastructure manager.
An important element will also be a discussion on green criteria in road infrastructure tenders.
We believe that the MRP'25 conference will be an important event and an opportunity for road engineers – practitioners, road managers, scientists, environmental engineers to get together
- asphalt pavement recycling,
- concrete pavement recycling,
- deep recycling using mineral-cement-emulsion mixtures and foamed bitumen,
- the use of recycled additives for mineral and asphalt mixtures and concrete,
- use of waste materials from various industries as alternative materials,
- indication of economic benefits of recycling application,
- recycling environmental impact assessment,
- the use of low-carbon technologies in the construction process,
- the use of low-carbon technologies in the maintenance process,
- green criteria in road infrastructure tenders.
The conference aims to showcase the scientific and technical aspects related to the application of recycling and decarbonisation in the area of road construction, taking into account national and international experience.
SUBMISSION AND QUALIFICATION OF PAPERS
Paper abstracts should be submitted via the form, which can be found at: https://mrp25.ibdim.edu.pl The abstract should not exceed two pages of text (the form of separate paragraphs will make it easier for reviewers to grasp the concept of the speeches).
The Scientific and Programme Committee will select papers in a two-stage procedure: the first qualification on the basis of abstracts, the second one – on the basis of the full text. Authors are requested to submit the paper abstract and, once accepted, the full text of the paper, which will be notified separately. All confirmed abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts.
The selection of papers to be presented at the conference will be made by reviewers appointed by the Scientific and Programme Committee. The authors of these papers will be notified separately by the organiser.
The best papers submitted will be published in the “Roads and Bridges – Drogi i Mosty” quarterly journal (https://www.rabdim.pl/index.php/rb), published by IBDiM (Ministry of Science and Higher Education: 70 points).
